Launch of the publication Modern Architecture of Bratislava and Its Architects 1925–2025

On 15 May 2025, the publication Moderná architektúra Bratislavy a jej architekti 1925–2025 / Modern Architecture of Bratislava and Its Architects 1925–2025 was officially launched in the Mirror Hall of the Primate’s Palace in Bratislava.

The book presents one hundred years of modern architecture in Bratislava through one hundred key figures—both architects and women architects—who have shaped the city’s built environment. Published in both Slovak and English, the volume offers a curated selection of the most important architectural works from the beginnings of modernism to the present day. The publisher is the International Festival of Architecture and Urbanism Architecture Week Prague. The chief editor is Professor Matúš Dulla, who collaborated with a broader team of contributors on selected entries. Professionally, the book was created in cooperation with the Department of the Chief Architect of the City of Bratislava, under the leadership of Juraj Šujan.

The evening ceremony was moderated by Andrea Bačová. Speakers included Juraj Šujan, Chief Architect of Bratislava; Thomas Vonier, former President of the International Union of Architects (UIA), who praised Slovak architecture from an international perspective; Professor Matúš Dulla, the book’s author; and publisher Petr Ivanov. In his remarks, Ivanov also commemorated the late architect Štefan Šlachta and announced the upcoming exhibition Jože Plečnik: A Central European Architect, which will open on 15 October 2025 at Bratislava Castle.

The publication was made possible thanks to the support of the City of Bratislava and the project’s partners: Baumit, Cresco Real Estate, Immocap, JTRE, Lucron Group, Miele, Penta Real Estate, Stopka, and YIT Slovakia. Many of Bratislava’s leading architects were also in attendance at the launch.
