On 22 September 2026, the historic premises of the Czech National Bank hosted the fourth annual Opera Pragensia Awards ceremony, celebrating outstanding contributions to architecture, heritage conservation and urban development in Prague. This year’s edition focused on social infrastructure, highlighting the importance of creating a city that not only offers exceptional architecture but also improves the everyday lives of its residents.
The evening celebrated fifteen outstanding projects, institutions and individuals contributing to the development and quality of life in Prague. Awards were presented with the participation of representatives from twelve Prague municipal districts, the City of Prague and its partner city, Berlin.
The theme of Social Infrastructure offered a broader perspective on architecture and its responsibility towards society. Special attention was given to healthcare and educational facilities, social and community centres, cultural institutions, public spaces, innovative projects and individuals whose long-term dedication helps create a more accessible, inclusive and connected city.
A Celebratory Evening at the Czech National Bank
The ceremony was opened by Aleš Michl, Governor of the Czech National Bank, who welcomed guests to the bank’s historic premises. He was followed by Bohuslav Svoboda, Mayor of Prague, who highlighted the importance of the Opera Pragensia Awards and their ongoing mission to recognise projects that contribute to improving life in the capital.
The evening was hosted by journalist and television presenter Jakub Železný.
Recognising Prague’s Municipal Districts and Outstanding Individuals
More than 60 nominations were submitted for this year’s awards. Twelve Prague municipal districts presented their laureates, including architects, artists, directors of public institutions, social workers and individuals whose everyday dedication makes a significant difference to their local communities.
Among the award-winning projects were affordable housing in Prague’s historic centre, the revitalisation of public spaces, the reconstruction of the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre, and institutions providing essential care for elderly people and people with disabilities.
A special place among the laureates was given to individuals whose valuable work often remains outside the public spotlight. The awards demonstrated that social infrastructure is not simply about buildings and investments, but above all about the people who give these places their true purpose.
This connection between architecture, public services and human care became one of the central messages of this year’s edition.
Special Awards and International Recognition
Among the highlights of the evening were the awards presented by the City of Prague, recognising projects and individuals whose work has a significant impact on the wider community.
The Vlček Family Foundation was recognised for its remarkable transformation of the historic Cibulka estate into a centre dedicated to children’s palliative care and support for families.
Another important award honoured Markéta Školoudová for her work with Zahrada pro duši, an organisation dedicated to mental health care and support.
The international dimension of Opera Pragensia was reflected in the presentation of the Grand Prix Opera Pragensia 2026 to the City of Berlin, highlighting the importance of cooperation and the exchange of ideas between European cities.
Opera Pragensia: Celebrating Those Who Shape Our City
The Opera Pragensia Awards have long recognised outstanding architectural achievements, high-quality public spaces and responsible approaches to urban development. The fourth edition demonstrated that architecture should not be judged solely by its aesthetic or technical qualities, but also by the way it serves society.
Above all, this year’s ceremony provided an opportunity to express public appreciation to those whose expertise, commitment and years of dedicated work help make Prague a better place to live.
We warmly congratulate all laureates and thank them for their exceptional contributions. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the City of Prague, the participating municipal districts, the Czech National Bank and all partners who supported the preparation and organisation of this year’s event.
Opera Pragensia 2026 once again reminded us that the true value of a city lies not only in its architecture, but above all in the people it serves.
