Opera Pragensia 2025

On October 8, 2025, the Czech National Bank hosted a gala evening with the presentation of the Prague City Awards for Architecture and Monument Preservation Opera Pragensia 2025. This year’s edition, with the motto “Public Space” celebrated projects that cultivate Prague’s squares, parks, streets, and embankments while enhancing the quality of everyday life in the metropolis. The award-winning projects demonstrated that thoughtful architecture and urban planning can naturally connect the city’s history with its current needs.

The evening began with the presentation of the City District Mayors’ Awards, followed by the Prague City Hall Awards in the categories of Blue Infrastructure and Public Interest, Smart City and Digital Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Resources, and Energy Infrastructure. A special City Hall Award highlighted the city’s safety and resilience by recognizing the flood protection measures in Karlín. This was followed by the International Jury Award, the Public Award, and the Award of the Archbishop of Prague and Primate of Bohemia.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Opera Pragensia Grand Prix to Prague’s partner city Warsaw for its long-term care for architectural and urban heritage and the development of friendly relations between Prague and Warsaw.

The evening was hosted by Václav Žmolík, with musical accompaniment provided by Karolína Cingrošová, Daniel and Ivan Klánský, and a guest appearance by renowned Polish performer Szymon Nehring. The opening musical number was performed by the young and talented Cyril Matyáš from the Central Bohemian Piano Forte Competition. The program also included a lecture by Prof. Vladimír Šlapeta and the presentation of the publication “Architecture for the Public” which captures all the festive moments of this year’s event.

The gala evening was attended by representatives of the capital city, the Czech National Bank, foreign partners, and the professional public. In conclusion, Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda thanked all the award winners and announced the theme for 2026: “Living Space” with Berlin as the partner city.
