Retrospective of Collaboration Architecture Week Prague & KKCG Real Estate

From the very beginning of its activities, Architecture Week Prague has focused on documenting, popularising, and fostering a deeper understanding of architecture as a key component of cultural heritage and social identity. Thanks to the support and strategic partnership with KKCG Real Estate, we have been able in recent years to realise several major publishing projects that represent milestones in mapping Czech, Prague, and Central European architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries.

1. Alphabet – AAA – Alphabetical Album of Architects 1900–2022 (2022)

This publication presents a unique alphabetical overview of more than one hundred architects who have shaped the face of modern architecture in the Czech lands from the early 20th century to the present day. This visual encyclopaedia combines concise biographies with key realised works and responds to the need for a visually oriented
presentation of architecture for today’s generations of readers, complementing traditional text-based architectural lexicons. Published in Czech and English.

2. Czech and Slovak Architecture (2023)

This publication was conceived as a reflection on more than a century of shared as well as independent architectural development in the Czech lands and Slovakia. A selective choice of buildings and projects captures important phases of a common history—from the founding of Czechoslovakia, through interwar achievements and wartime turning points, to the architecture of the independent states after 1993. The result is a comprehensive picture of the cultural and aesthetic transformation of both national traditions.

3. Alphabet of Prague Modern Architecture (2023)

This publication presents Prague as a unique urban organism whose development has been shaped by a combination of geographical, cultural, and historical influences. Through an alphabetical overview of the most significant architects and their works, readers are offered an inspiring journey through the modern architecture of the Czech capital—from interwar buildings to works that defined the city’s character in the second half of the 20th century and beyond. Published in Czech and English.

4. Czech Modern Architecture (2025)

A representative monograph mapping the development of Czech architecture from Art Nouveau to the present within a broader European context. Through its concept, it connects historical development, key figures, characteristic buildings, and cultural influences, creating a coherent narrative of modern architecture in the Czech lands. The publication has become one of the key outputs of Architecture Week Prague for presenting Czech architectural heritage both at home and abroad. Published in Czech and English.

5. Josip Plečnik – A Central European Architect (2025)

A monograph devoted to the life and work of Josip Plečnik, one of the most influential figures in Central European architecture. The book is conceived as an in-depth insight into the individual phases of Plečnik’s career—from his early Vienna period, through his key work in Prague and Ljubljana, to his international reception. The text emphasises the timelessness of his work and its lasting influence on contemporary architectural thinking. Published in Czech and English.

6. Hans Scharoun and Lubomír Šlapeta – Friendship Across Borders (2026)

This publication presents the exceptional professional and personal relationship between two architects that developed despite the political upheavals of the 20th century. It will trace their cooperation from the interwar avant-garde through the period of Nazism, war, and the Cold War, to the renewed dialogue of the 1960s, when Lubomír Šlapeta participated in major international projects. Through correspondence and personal testimonies, the book will reveal not only the architectural but also the deeply human dimension of this friendship and its significance for the Czech–German cultural space. It will be published in Czech and German.

Each of these publications—Alphabet – AAA – Alphabetical Album of Architects 1900–2022, Czech and Slovak Architecture, Alphabet of Prague Modern Architecture, Czech Modern Architecture, Josip Plečnik – A Central European Architect, and Hans Scharoun and Lubomír Šlapeta – Friendship Across Borders—represents an independent yet interrelated step in the comprehensive mapping of architecture: from individual personalities and buildings to broader historical and cultural contexts. All titles have been published in bilingual editions and are intended for both domestic and international audiences.

Thanks to the open support and strategic cooperation with KKCG Real Estate, it has been possible to realise these projects in a scope and quality commensurate with their ambitions and significance. Together, we are fulfilling a vision of architecture as an integral part of cultural identity and heritage, with the power to inspire both the present and the future. Thank you for your trust.
