The publication Modern Architecture of Slovakia presents the rich history and dynamic development of modern architecture in Slovakia from 1900 to the present day. Architecture, as a specific form of representation of the world, reflects not only the state of culture and civilisation but also current social values. Architecture serves as a bridge to understanding history and to discovering the values that shape our view of the future.
The publication Modern Architecture of Slovakia builds its concept on the unique mission of architecture. It holds up a mirror to a period of technological innovation and social change, during which opinion-shaping buildings were created in Slovakia. The most significant of these are documented in this publication.
It offers a unique perspective on key architectural works and the creations of important figures who have shaped the architectural character of Slovak cities and landscapes. The aim is to create a representative and visually compelling publication, intended for the professional community as well as for the general public.
The publication will include concise biographies of architects, their portraits, and a selection of the most significant works – from early modernism and functionalism to contemporary architecture. A rich visual section will present large-format photographs, complemented by floor plans and project documentation, providing a more comprehensive view of individual architectural works.
With an extent of approximately 300 pages, the publication will be published in Slovak and English, as a valuable contribution to the systematic documentation of Slovakia’s architectural heritage.
The publication will become both a professional reference and a source of inspiration, and an invitation to explore the diversity of Slovak architecture in a European context.
