Architecture and Heritage Conservation Prize of the City of Prague – OPERA PRAGENSIA 2025

Public Spaces and heritage conservation as a bridge between the Czech Republic and Poland.

The Prize of the City of Prague in the field of architecture and heritage conservation -Opera Pragensia- is meant as a recognition for professionals who have a significant impact on the protection and revitalization of the cultural heritage of the City of Prague and the creation of new spaces of the highest quality. Presented by the mayor and the heads of Prague city districts, the awards emphasize efforts to preserve historical values while supporting modern development.

The Opera Pragensia award ceremony will take place at the Czech National Bank. This event, featuring Warsaw as the guest city, will recognize the mutual exchange of proven methods and experiences in the field of heritage conservation.

The Opera Pragensia Grand Prix will be awarded to the City of Warsaw for the long-term care of its architectural and urban heritage after World War II, as an example of monument protection, buildings and public spaces in a major European metropolis. It is also an appreciation of the long-standing friendship between Prague and Warsaw in all areas – social, cultural and political life. The award will be presented by the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda and the Governor of the
Czech National Bank Aleš Michl.

Prague, with its rich history and unique cultural heritage, takes this opportunity to strengthen its commitment to the protection and development of its monuments, reflecting the importance of maintaining Prague’s historical identity while also promoting cooperation in the field of sustainable urban development with a special focus on Public Spaces.

The International Committee Prize Opera Pragensia 2025

One of the awards to be presented is our own International Committee Prize Opera Pragensia 2025, which recognizes the best new architectural projects on Public Spaces in the city of Prague, spaces understood to be liveable, functional, aesthetic, safe, and most importantly, belonging to everyone, citizens and visitors alike. The mixed and complex nature of Public Spaces nominated by each of the Districts of Prague allows us to have diverse typologies such as parks, markets, squares, pedestrian areas, recreational areas, transportation infrastructure, hospitality and many more, adapting organically to the existing body of the city with the main objective of improving the quality of life of their users.

The Architecture Week Festival Jury

Czech Architecture Week had the honor of appointing a Jury for the International Committee Prize Opera Pragensia 2025 based on the architectural expertise of our close collaborators and the theme of the celebration of Polish – Czech cultural relations. The goal of the Jury is to study the nominated architectural projects shortlisted by the districts of the city of Prague and Architecture Week, projects focused on the creation, renovation and adapation of Public Spaces in the city of Prague, and select a winning entry to receive the Prize from the hand of Arch. Thomas Vonier in the award ceremony at the Czech National Bank on October 8th, 2025.
