Exhibition “Prague – Vienna – Connections”

The exhibition “Prague – Vienna – Connections” will take place as part of the Czech-Austrian cultural program from September 17 to October 18, 2024. Under the auspices of the City of Prague, it will focus on presenting the actual policies on historical development and the history of the mutual relations between two significant European cities, from ancient times to the present.

The exhibition will be installed in the baroque confines of Clam-Gallas Palace, which is symbolically suitable: built by Prague constructors and artists according to the design of the famous Viennese architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Across twenty halls, visitors will journey through the history of Prague and Vienna, by way of a great collection of historical documents: maps, plans, artworks, and three-dimensional models and interactive projections. The exhibition spans the period from the first contacts of both cities under the rule of the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II, through the time of Prague’s dominance under the rule of emperors Charles IV and Rudolf II, the slowed development of Prague under the shadow of Vienna as the seat and residential city of the Habsburg dynasty, all the way up to the modern republics of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The goal of the exhibition curators and organizers is to provide visitors not only with a visually captivating experience but also to stimulate a deeper understanding of the shared roots and undeniable cultural attachment of both significant Central European cities.
